Phinda Forest Lodge

My first blog from South Africa - am nearing completion of a tour of the KwaZulu-Natal game reserves, before heading to the coast for a holiday, then up to the Drakensberg for some trekking. The highlight of this week in Maputaland has been a visit to Phinda Forest Lodge, located in the beautiful unspoiled Sand Forest. The "Zulu-Zen" suites set deep in the forest are truly superb, and openning the windows and sliding doors at night, with just the mosquito screens separating you and the bush was a great experience - the noise of the forest was intense. Having visited Hluhluwe-iMpfolosi national park a few days prior, on a self-drive basis, seeing little game and staying in national parks huts, coming to Phinda really was a revelation - the guides are expert at finding you game (10 lion, elephant, black and white rhino and cheetah for starters!), and really looked after me. The "private" experiece really shone! Out for now..... the next adventure in the bush is looming
